If you have been at anything challenging for any period of time you have been tempted to quit. The aspect of any endeavor that provides the most attention seems to get the least. In his Great Book with Winning in Mind, Lanny Bassham discusses three areas that must be in harmony- The Conscious mind, the Subconscious mind and the Self Image. 95% of the winners come from 5% of all competitors. Why? Because the Mind (conscious, sub, self-image) many times decides to shut things down way before any challenge has occurred. Sometimes the mere threat of a challenge can bring a halt to operations. For most health enthusiasts we get into a rut for our minds sake. NICE SAFE REPITION- the treadmill, the elliptical and on and on! No Challenge, No mess, No fuss and stalled Results. These mundane Reps are not training the most important function we have! Our mind. Varied unconventional training keep the mind off balance and it must work to stay involved. We must think and do. How can a 40 minute workout at a myriad of movements make me a better endurance athlete? Easy-well it's not easy but the answer is. It is training my mind to be focused and involved. When I have to think to perform I do not have loads of time to consider if I am tired or thirsty or uncomfortable-No I am involved in my training so when the last miles become agonizing I don't THINK AGONY I stay focused on the process not the product. Our Race plan, Workout plan or whatever plan needs to be decided on long before the race begins. You decide as much as you can before you are faced with the challenge not when you are tired. There are those who leave the Gym or won't come in if they find out a workout is something they don't "like". That is the best time to learn to focus and feast on the process. Learn it and lean on it for performance. The pre decided process will keep you moving long after your projected performance has let you down.

So....take up something new. Break out-go varied. Learn to focus and be present then go back to what you love and see how much more fulfilling it has become....

Well anyway....IT WORKS FOR ME!!
